We began a partnership with our newest international partner community in Summer 2021 and are preparing for a virtual assessment trip in Summer 2022. The Gateway Professional Chapter has partnered with the community of El Ventarrón, Nicaragua to complete a water supply project. The community of 90 households and 662 people currently has no reliable source of water. The community relies on three springs, two of which run dry for several months each year. The community is worried about the water quality from the sources they currently utilize. After securing the water supply and providing distributed taps, later phases of work may include building a water storage tank and extending the distribution system to add more community taps or to put taps in individual homes. Although we have not discussed building toilets or laundry facilities, the Country Office Brief indicates that the current facilities were constructed in 2007 and are in a state of disrepair. We anticipate future phases of the project could include sanitation.
